        3. Take notes on each sermon.
          4. Be active in at least 2 small groups for the 90 Days. (Sunday School is a small group. Ask the staff or the Ministry Help Desk about other groups.)

Christ-walk — A New Sermon Series

Last Sunday we concluded the sermon series  on prayer.  I feel we could continue for a year and not scratch the surface.  There will  be other years to look at prayer again.  Next Sunday we begin a study on the Christian life talking about our “Christ-walk.”  I made up this term to describe the Christian life [...]

A Personal Note — When Health Is an Issue

For the past several weeks I have been preoccupied with health issues.  First with  my mother who had to have hardware replaced in her hip replacement; and then with my wife Leslie who has had a difficult battle with pneumonia.  Mom is home now and progressing nicely.  Leslie came home from a second hospital stay this [...]

March 14 — Do you get it?

Do you get it?
This is the question I find myself struggling with. We will gather at church this Palm Sunday and worship with joy and celebration. Will we celebrate the “hero” Jesus or the “savior” Jesus?
What difference does it make? For several years I have looked for terms that would describe the [...]

March 13 — The Triumphal Entry

The Triumphal Entry of Jesus on Palm Sunday would have been a phenomenal experience for the disciples.  They had been with Jesus for almost three years witnessing miraculous event after miraculous event.  They had struggled through emotions ranging from fear to doubt.  In the end faith was prevailing in their lives.  Peter had spoken for [...]

March 12 — Standing Firm

In my meditations this week I have been thinking about Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem.  The people responded in a great way, waving palm branches and crying “Hosanna.”  The sad thing is that it is possible that many of these were swayed to change their tunes a week later to “Crucify him.  Give us Barabbas.  [...]

March 6 — The “Intentional” Will of God

Some people search and search to ascertain the will of God.  Others act like they just know it.  We may spend hours and hours in prayer and Bible study and be in either one of these positions.
I will ever be grateful to Rick Warren for describing the “purpose” of God in five ways:  worship, evangelism, [...]

March 4 — What do we mean by “the will of God”?

You hear it all of the time, “It is the will of God.”  At funeral homes, in the hospital, after accidents, after financial back-sets, and sometimes even when something good happens — in all kind of situations people will say, “It is the will of God.”  How can all be true?  We will look at these questions this [...]

March 3 — What is the Will of God?

We often speak about knowing and doing the will of God.  What are we talking about?  The Encarta Dictionary gives the nominal meaning of the word “will” as: 1. part of the mind that makes decisions; 2. power to decide; 3. process of making decisions; 4. determination; 5. desire or inclination; 6. attitude toward somebody [...]
