With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and much grace was upon them all. There were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned lands or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales and put it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to anyone as he had need.
There is a difference in ministering with power and ministering in our own strength. To see great results in ministry Christians must minister with power. Acting in our own strength demonstrates our inadequacies.
In Acts 1:8 Jesus teaches, “you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you.” It was based on this God-given power that the disciples were able to witness to the whole world. The passage was fulfilled in Acts 2 when the Holy Spirit came on them at Pentecost. Today’s passage takes place soon after the multitudes were added. Notice that the church is still acting in the power of the Spirit. Note the results that come from ministering in the Spirit: “the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and much grace was upon them all. 34 There were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned lands or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales 35 and put it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to anyone as he had need.” Truly successful ministry is a result of ministry done in the power of the Spirit.
